You could go to Pokerstars dot net and play free poker, my aunt told me about some of their tournaments that are free and you could play for a chance to win a spot at the big time in Las Vegas for lots of money. There are also tournaments that you can buy in to win a little jackpot.
I like to play poker at the casino at the Texas Hold'em 1/2 tables where you gamble against the other gamblers cause there is no gambling against the casinos cause they will always win. they may lose a little but overall they will win. they would not be able to run a business otherwise. anyway I myself am a conservative player so 1/2 no limit poker is the one for me. I see why people can make a living through this being professional poker player could be quite simple and lots of fun and make you a nice amount of money if you know what you are doing and play conservativly then you should be fine.
At the casino in the Texas hold'em 1/2 no limit i suggest buying in for $100 waiting for a good hand you feel good about and pushing all in for this is a good way of doubling up even tripling up or better depending on how many people are calling you. last time i went to the poker room i bought in for $100 blinds and little raises took me down to $50 then i got a good hand pushed all in and quaded up $200 jackpot with a flush. 2 hrs into it i was $800 up! I suggest winning a little $100 - 200 then leaving the table so people can not push u all in and take your winnings. go back in half hour or hour and doing it again or waiting for another day to go back. after all $100 -$200 a day someone could easily make a living out of this game. one easy and fun way to make alot of money with little investment you just need to "know when to hold'em and know when to fold'em"
Every time i go to the Texas holdem poker room an sit at a table i see some people with thousands in front of them and you could only buy in for $40- $200 at 1/2 where i like to play the little investment one. i have only went twice so far but i am up $1200 so I have to recommend this as a good way to make easy money with little investment. last time i went i scored $800 in 2 hrs! so if you decide this sounds fun and think you've learned a thing or two here, good luck have fun

Below is an example of how high cards would win if faced off against other high cards. in the winning hand 2 is no good but Ace high kicks the 3 players 2 is junked so best hand is A 5 10 7 J

Below i will give examples of winning hand combos starting with the worst hands to best hands in any kind of poker
Lowest to Highest #10
Nobody hits any combos then they look for high cards. below is example of lowest being 2 to highest being A and above is example of a Texas holdem game where nobody hits a combo and they determine the winner with the highest card.
any Pair. like below would be Pair of K's with Q 6 5 (kickers) if 2 players have a pair player with the highest pair wins. if the players share the same pair the player with the third highest card wins if players have the same hands it would be a push. example u have Q 3 i have J 10 community cards are K K 6 5 2 you win your Q takes the place of the 2 your 3 not better then 5 or 6 so is scratched giving u the final winning hand below.
Two Pair #8
any two pair AAQQ. if two players have two pair highest pair wins. if two players have the same highest pair the next highest pair wins if it's still all tied up then the highest 5th card (the kicker) comes into play. you have 7 2 i have 3 8 would give us the best hand below as me the winner with the 8 high (kicker)
3 of a kind. if 2 players have three of a kind the highest 3 of a kind wins. if they have the same three of a kind the player with the highest 4th card wins the pot
Straight #6
any numerical sequence forms a straight example below 4 5 6 7 8 suits don't matter here unless their all suited making it a almost unbeatable straight flush. if 2 players have same straight they split the pot. the Ace is the only card that can form 2 different straights, A 2 3 4 5 or 10 J Q K A
Flush #5
any 5 cards of the same suit. if two or more players have a flush the player with the highest card of the suit wins the pot
Full House #4
any trips with a pair example QQQ99 or 22777 or other trips with a pair "full boat" 5 card hand if 2 players have a full boat the one with with highest 3 of a kind wins the pot
4 of a Kind #3
4 of a kind. that simple
Straight Flush #2
A-5 or 5-9 or any straight all of the same suit
ROYAL FLUSH #1
10-A any suit all same suit
